WHAT ARE AP CLASSES AND WHY TAKE THEM?

AP classes are higher-level classes in various subjects that allow high school students to earn college credits and prepare for the AP exams, which are graded on a scale of 1 to 5. AP classes show colleges that students can handle the academic rigor of college-level courses and strengthen students' college applications. AP classes also teach students skills like writing, critical thinking, and problem-solving1-3.

Taking an AP class (or several!) is a great way to challenge yourself academically and show colleges that you're serious about your education. An AP class on your transcript signals stronger academic training, especially with high passing scores of 4 and 5 on the test4-6. And, even if colleges don’t accept AP credits, AP exam scores of 4 or 5 can help with placement into advanced college courses.
